You can use getClientRnge:

var element = document.getElementById('element')

element.onmouseup = function(){
    var selection   = document.getSelection(),
        range       = selection.getRangeAt(0),
        clientRects = range.getClientRects()

    console.log(clientRects)
}

This will return the left, right, top, bottom, width and height of all selections made.
